Inspired by a moonlit-sea, these asymmetric sun and moon earrings have glistening aegean blue, deep midnight blue and salt white cloisonné enamel, a micro-mosaic of Indian seed pearls and six clear blue topaz stones.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique (c. 12th century B.C.) used to decorate metal. The decoration uses fine gold wires to separate the different hand-painted enamel compartments and is set by firing in a kiln.

In antiquity, the cloisonné technique was used for jewellery, small clothes fittings, and weapons. In the Byzantine Empire, the technique was used for pictorial images, mostly religious images and jewellery. In 14th century China this enamel technique was used for bowls and vases.
