Cosmologically balanced, these mis-matched sun and moon earrings feature garnets, rose zircon and a micro-mosaic of Indian seed pearls alongside rose pink and cherry red cloisonné enamel work hand-painted in the heart of Rome.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique (c. 12th century B.C.) used to decorate metal. The decoration uses fine gold wires to separate the different hand-painted enamel compartments and is set by firing in a kiln.

In antiquity, the cloisonné technique was used for jewellery, small clothes fittings, and weapons. In the Byzantine Empire, the technique was used for pictorial images, mostly religious images and jewellery. In 14th century China this enamel technique was used for bowls and vases.
