Glowing in their 24ct gold-plated settings, these ornate oval and pear-drop citrine earrings are crowned with apricot orange and snow white cloisonné enamel decoration. They are hand-painted in the heart of Rome and embellished with a micro-mosaic of Indian seed pearls.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique (c. 12th century B.C.) used to decorate metal. The decoration uses fine gold wires to separate the different hand-painted enamel compartments and is set by firing in a kiln.

In antiquity, the cloisonné technique was used for jewellery, small clothes fittings, and weapons. In the Byzantine Empire, the technique was used for pictorial images, mostly religious images and jewellery. In 14th century China this enamel technique was used for bowls and vases.
